Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake
The description and use of language in this book in breathtaking. I have never read anything like it. It follows a collection of strange characters who all live in a castle ruled heavily by odd traditions. It’s quirky, it’s surreal. It can be extremely quiet and reflective at times and at others huge and dramatic. Each scene is meticulously imagined, every detain considered.
But because of all this, this book is dense! It has taken me a long time to read, because there was a lot to take in, but I wouldn’t change any of it. I loved every minute!
This is one of those books that you know you will treasure and hold up as one of the best things you have ever read for the rest of your like. Huge statement, I know, but this book is just that good!
